Ivory Coast: AMG/MaDigital joins UK’s IMPEL collective
Ivorian independent music publisher AMG/MaDigital has become a member of the UK-based Independent Music Publishers’ E-Licensing (IMPEL), an international collective agency representing digital music publishing rights.
AMG/MaDigital is reportedly the first company from Africa to join IMPEL. It was founded in 2020 by Dominique Gnamba and established with the aim of educating African artists about publishing income and its opportunities.
IMPEL is fully owned and controlled by its members, while AMG/MaDigital has signed more than 800 songwriters since it began operating, of which about 90% are based in West Africa and specialise in Afrobeats. The company represents artist like Ks Bloom, Morijah, Stelair, Asaph du Ciel, Nitche OG and 8ll. It says it has collected more than $50 000 in less than a year.
AMG/MaDigital comprises a management arm, record label and music promotion service. It joins Regard Music (US), Levantine Music (US/UK) and Lusitanian Music Publishing (Portugal), which have all joined IMPEL in the past six months.
“We are really happy to become a member of IMPEL,” Gnamba said. “We look forward to working with them to enhance our collections in Africa and make sure our artists get paid properly and quickly. Joining IMPEL is also a great opportunity to work alongside a diverse range of successful independent publishers from all around the world as a collective.”
IMPEL CEO Sarah Williams said: “We’re really delighted to be welcoming Dominique and his team to IMPEL as our first member from the African continent. MaDigital is breaking new ground in West Africa and we feel that we are the perfect partner to support them in their mission to support African songwriters. Their experience and insight into an important developing region will also be of great value to us.”
