Kendrick Lamar joins H.E.R. for Hey Neighbour Festival in SA
American rapper Kendrick Lamar will headline the Hey Neighbour Festival at Legends Adventure Farm in Pretoria, South Africa, from 8 to 10 December.
The multi-Grammy winner joins fellow US artist H.E.R., who will also headline the event organised by Glen21. Supporting acts include Khalid (US), The Chainsmokers (US), Swedish House Mafia (Sweden) and a host of other local and international artists.
“We had promised you more beats and surprises, and we believe adding this powerhouse artist who’s known for his thought-provoking lyrics and ground-breaking music, cranks up your anticipation a notch or two,” the organisers said.
Kendrick Lamar has been to South Africa before with his visit inspiring his jazz-flavoured third studio album To Pimp a Butterfly, which hit number one on the Billboard 200 and received universal acclaim. Growing up in Compton, California, Lamar performed as K Dot as a teenager. After quickly gaining local attention, he signed with Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) in 2005.
Often considered one of the most influential hip hop artists of his generation, he is known for his progressive musical styles and socially conscious songwriting. His remix of Taylor Swift’s ‘Bad Blood’ topped the Billboard Hot 100 in the same year.
Some of his albums include Section.80 (2011), Good Kid, M.A.A.D City (2012), Damn (2017) and Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers (2022). Apart from the Grammys, he has received accolades at the Emmy Awards, American Music Awards, BET Hip Hop Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards, among others.
Tickets to the event can be purchased here.
