Kenya’s Octopizzo to launch new album
Long Distance Paper Chaser (LDPC), a new album by one of Kenya’s leading hip-hop artists, Octopizzo, will be launched this weekend on Saturday 8 August at the Kenya International Conference Centre in Nairobi. According to the artist, the album is dedicated to Kenyan athletes who are well-known for their exploits worldwide. The album comprises of Octopizzo's recent hits such as ‘Something For You’ and ‘Put Your Drinks Up’.
Other than the album, Octopizzo is also expected to officially unveil his much anticipated collab with an American recording artist August Alsina, ‘Could Be Us’. Though Alsina’s voice can be heard on the trailer recently released online, many Kenyans remain unconvinced that the two artists have indeed collaborated. When he first made the announcement in early 2015 that he was collaborating with the American, many viewed it as a publicity stunt. Kenyan hip-hop lovers are therefore eager to see whether Alsina will be on the music video come 8 August.
The new album is also expected to feature top Kenya’s top hip-hop artists, Rabbit
Born Henry Ohanga, Octopizzo’s music is shaped by his upbringing in the informal settlements of Kibera, and is influenced by artists such as Chino XL, Diabolic, Immortal Technik, Supernatural and many others. His 2014 debut album, Chocolate City, was made up of songs that focused on social criticism, such as ‘Toboa’ and ‘Voices of Kibera’.
To promote the new album, Octopizzo will reportedly be touring the UK courtesy of the British Council. View the trailer for ‘Could Be Us’ below.
