Kenya: Fena Gitu releases new single Love Is
Kenyan singer and rapper Fena Gitu has released a new single titled ‘Love Is’.
The track, the first off her third studio album, Love Art Lust (LAL), set to come out in May, is available for streaming download on all major digital platforms.
‘Love Is’ is a gospel-tinged Afropop offering produced by Gitu’s long-time collaborator iLogos Music in which the singer advocates for self-love and concern for others.
The artist recently disclosed that she had been working on the album long before she released her previous album, Unleashed, but was at a point in her life where she was not in tune to finish the songs.
“I had started working on it before the last album, but some songs were not yet ready to take on that project, and I like to take my time with anything I am working on,” Gitu said. “It’s a journey in love. Love for yourself, love for others, and love for God.
“This road led me down to the third album Love Art Lust, which is a play on Love at Last, but we had to make it cool, pulling back to my last album Unleashed which came out in November 2019. Then pandemic then hit and we had to sit down with our thoughts and face the reality, our own truth, our own faults, and essentially this is where this body of work came from.”
The single’s music video is co-directed by The Black Jurist and pays homage to Gitu’s hometown, Murang’a, and features a special tribute to her grandmother.
The artist, also known as Fenamenal, developed a passion for music at a young age. Despite her dream to become an astronaut, music proved too powerful a calling.
