Kenya: Listen to Liboi’s new single Safari
Kenyan artist Liboi has released a new single titled ‘Safari’, which is now available for streaming and download.
The record, which is the title track off her forthcoming sophomore EP, is a product of an artist-in-residency programme Liboi was part of at Nafasi Art Space in Tanzania in March and April. During the residency, the singer interacted with other creatives from different parts of the world and, by sharing ideas and experiences, the track was born.
“‘Safari’ expresses the idea of embarking on a long journey with many worries and doubts,” Liboi said. “It highlights the power of music to provide comfort and solace. The aim of the song is also to show how music has the power to bridge cultural differences and facilitate understanding between people from different corners of the world to make meaningful connections with each other.
“The journey is not just physical, it’s also about finding a sense of belonging and ‘home’ among the people you will meet. It shows how art and music can serve as universal languages that transcend linguistic and cultural barriers, enabling people from different backgrounds to communicate, share experiences and find common ground. Through creative expression, individuals can connect, learn from one another and build bridges between cultures.”
The track ties in into the concept of her Safari EP – expressing the beauty of cultural diversity and inclusivity. The project will celebrate music and other cultural connections across the East African region.
