The fund will provide urgent assistance to artists within the Prince Claus Fund network who are facing oppression, war, and natural disasters, ensuring they can continue their work under challenging circumstances.
“Beyond immediate financial aid, the Fund will also invest in long-term solutions,” Prince Claus Fund executive director Marcus Desando said. “We will be developing a toolkit to share knowledge, foster an international support network, and work to enhance the resilience of artists and their communities.”
Artists play a critical role in defending freedom, justice, and equality, using creative expression as a tool against oppression and injustice, Prince Claus Fund said. However, traditional humanitarian aid often overlooks the need to protect artistic freedom. The Artist Emergency Fund aims to bridge this gap by offering rapid financial support and protection to Prince Claus Fund Awardees at risk, helping them sustain their work and resilience.
National Postcode Lottery managing director Jonne Arnoldussen said: “Art and culture are essential to the well-being of communities, especially in times of crisis. We are proud that, thanks to our participants, we can support the Prince Claus Fund in its commitment to artists facing oppression, war, and natural disasters. The Artist Emergency Fund will be a crucial lifeline for preserving cultural expression worldwide.”
The National Postcode Lottery has supported the Prince Claus Fund for 25 years, playing a key role in its ongoing mission to safeguard artistic freedom and strengthen creative resilience.
Further details about the Artist Emergency Fund programme will be announced in the coming months.
