Lagos dance event seeks to improve women’s health
The Seed Rehabilitation Foundation will be holding the Lagos Women Dance Fiesta at the National Stadium in Surulere on 7 March.
Themed Stress Out, the maiden Lagos Women Dance Fiesta will commemorate International Women’s Day (8 March) through music and dance. The event aims to encourage women to engage in physical exercise as a way of keeping fit and maintaining or improving their health.
“Stress is a universal and a common challenge to the modern woman,” Seed Rehabilitation Foundation publicist Juliet Vincent-Obi told The Guardian.
“Women working in different organisations have to deal with it to avoid decrease in performance, absenteeism and poor work quality of work due to health challenges such as anxiety, emotional disorder and poor work-life balance, among others.”
In addition to celebrating International Women’s Day, the 7 March dance event aims to bring together women of diverse professions and backgrounds.
“The event is an opportunity to celebrate women and create awareness on some cultural biases held against them in the workplace and some communities across the country. Research shows that dance, especially health and fitness dance, boost one’s ability to live healthily as they age,” Vincent-Obi said.
