Midem to go digital in November, announces Africa edition
Reed Midem, the organiser of music business trade event Midem, last week announced that it had postponed the in-person Midem edition in Cannes, France, from June, when it is traditionally held, to 19 November.
The four-day event will now be held virtually, and will include exclusive keynote sessions, artist and music tech startup competitions, workshops from leading services and digital trailblazers, and virtual networking opportunities. Midem says that the physical event will return to Cannes in June 2022.
The digital event will be preceded by the Midem Africa Edition, which will kick off on 28 June. The conference, which is touted as the first-ever pan-African digital music event, will feature four days of sessions and networking with a focus on the digital music ecosystem in Africa. It will highlight exciting trends, opportunities and tools to accelerate careers and business among key local music players.
“Since the pandemic hit us all, we’ve taken our role in keeping the worldwide community connected, informed, engaged and looking forward together extremely seriously,” Midem director Alexandre Deniot said. “Midem Digital has allowed us to be here, daily, throughout the year to help us all better understand the new context in which we find ourselves and to navigate our new landscape.
“Given the current global context around COVID, Midem 2021 will be a fully online experience. We can’t wait to be back in our home in Cannes in June 2022 for a long overdue reunion with our members from more than 151 countries, who’ve been making use of Midem Digital this year.”
