MPASA to host music licensing workshop in Johannesburg

The workshop, titled Know Your Music Licence, is designed for anyone interested in learning more about music licensing, including sync and blanket licensing. Additionally, the workshop will discuss how music publishers can get more deals with fewer problems for their writers by addressing legal and practical considerations. 

Confirmed panellists will include JR Bogopa (entrepreneur and musician), Mpumi Phillips (The Orchard), Bongani Mdakane (Mdakane Attorneys) and Bianca Issacs (Fig Jam Entertainment). The panellists will represent different segments of the music licensing industry and contribute to a comprehensive understanding of how the industry is regulated.

“The achievement of this specific workshop would be attendees walking out of the workshop having established tangible connections that will help optimise their business, and attendees gaining critical insights on how to best license their works and gaining new membership,” MPASA operations manager Tsenolo Ntsane said. “This music licensing workshop was specifically curated to educate the audience on music licensing as a whole and engage on issues currently faced by music copyright holders and music users when it comes to music usage.”

Ntsane said the workshop was exclusive for MPASA members, with an opportunity for potential non-members to gain membership through attendance. Non-MPASA members are required to pay a R250 entry fee, which will be collected at the door.

Membership development is also key for growth, and thus we always extend the invitation to the public to pull in interest from music publishers who are not members and have them aware of our association which seeks to empower them.
