Namibia: Yola B to play NUTS gig on 1 September
Namibian-Austrian musician Yola B will perform at the Night Under the Stars (NUTS) concert at Goethe-Institut in Windhoek, Namibia, on 1 September.
NUTS was founded by Goethe-Institut Namibia in 2014 as a platform for local and international musicians to showcase and promote their work.
The show will mark Yola B’s first official show in Namibia since her return. She is expected to perform songs off her 2008 album Hello World – Chapter 1 (with Monilla) and singles including ‘Shosholoza’, ‘Monilla: 2nd Life’ and ‘Skyrocket’ (with DelaDap). She will be accompanied by Gareth Harvey on the saxophone and Riaan Smit on guitar.
Born Beate Baumgartner, Yola B gained recognition for her participation in the Austrian Castingshow Starmania in 2003. After touring with Starmania, she decided to pursue studies in communication and political science at the University of Vienna. At the university she collaborated with upcoming electro rock band Monilla and their first album earned them the prestigious Austrian Newcomer Award.
In 2008, her captivating vocals caught the attention of Parov Stelar’s electro-swing band, leading to her becoming the group’s singer. They toured across Europe and Asia, with Yola B writing the lyrics for their live shows, including for the song ‘Dandy’.
Tickets will be available at the door.
