Nigeria: Àrà to play at Alliance Française Lagos
Prominent Nigerian drummer Àrà is scheduled to perform at the Alliance Française in Lagos, Nigeria, on 15 February.
Àrà will be presenting her new project, I Love My Culture” – a concert series aimed at paying tribute to the drumming culture in Nigeria, while reinforcing African cultural values.
“See you on Saturday, come dance, sing, learn and laugh,” Àrà wrote on Facebook.
Popularly known as 'The Queen of Talking Drums', Àrà uses her talent to celebrate the rich history and heritage of the musical instrument, which is widely used in many genres across Africa.
The event will feature notable guests who will join Àrà onstage to educate audiences about the talking drum.
Born Aralola Olumuyiwa, Àrà started playing drums at the age of five. She gained prominence in the Nigerian music scene in the 1990s. Her stage presence and high-energy performances took music fans by storm, making her the first acclaimed female player of the talking drum.
Àrà has performed at many events across the world and continues to be a strong advocate of the ancient Yoruba drumming culture.
