Nominations for Crown Gospel Music Awards revealed
Nominees for the 9th annual SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards have been revealed by World Gospel Powerhouse at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, South Africa.
Organisers of this prestigious event opened nominations this year in September and closed last week on 7 October.
Undoubtedly one of the leading awards in the country, the SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards was designed to celebrate talents in the gospel music industry. In addition, the event recognizes the achievements of artists, musicians, producers and other related industry stakeholders. The celebration will be held on 27 November at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre (Durban ICC).
In a statement, Zanele Mbokazi from World Gospel Powerhouse said, “Our mammoth task continues to be one of bringing back the gospel in gospel music because there is no gospel without Christ. We are indeed grateful to our sponsors, who nine years later still believe in the vision that the World Gospel Powerhouse strives to drive,” she said.
Founded in 2007 by Mbokazi, a former presenter at popular radio station UKhozi FM, the Crown Gospel Music Awards this year received more than 600 entries for the awards. According to the organisers, six categories will be decided by the public. Those categories include: Best Gospel Community Radio Show and Best Gospel TV Show. The rest of the categories will be judged by the panel.
For the first time ever, the 2016 Crown Awards will be preceded by the Christian Expo Africa, which will take place at the Durban ICC from 25 November. The Christian Expo Africa is among the opportunities that Word Gospel Powerhouse provides through the Crown Gospel Music Awards to allow the industry and the public to engage.
