Nonso Amadi to release sophomore EP
Nigerian artist Nonso Amadi will release his second music project in June.
The announcement was made by the ‘Tonight’ singer during an interview with Lagos radio personality Douglas Jekan.
His first project, the Alone EP, was released in 2015. Since then the artist has released several singles, including ‘Radio’, ‘Kwasia’ and ‘Tonight’, the last garnering acclaim and popular success. He has supported such artists as Mr Eazi and Davido at concerts.
This year, Amadi has released the single ‘Comfortable’ as well as a video for ‘No Crime’. Asked what fans can expect from the forthcoming project, he said “exciting features”, referring to the guest appearances on the record, although he was tight-lipped on the identity of these artists.
A major voice in the alte scene, as music outside of the mainstream is called in Nigeria, the artist said he expects fans to the forthcoming record, which is titled Free, and conclude that Nonso Amadi “can put his head in different places”.
In the wide-ranging conversation, Amadi talked about his charity work with the Khan Foundation and leaving his training as an engineer to start out in the music industry.
He also spoke about admiring the stagecraft and eclecticism of Burna Boy and expressed some admiration for Wizkid but refrained from saying too much about the 'Soco' singer. “I don’t want to sound like a fanboy,” he said, laughing.
According to Amadi, his second project was to be released in May, but that has changed. The month of release was shifted to June but he is not certain on the exact date for the release. Nonetheless, he said the album is mostly ready and is currently “in post-production”.
“I came to Lagos to shoot the album's cover,” the Canada-based artist said.
