Nu World Festival to launch in Joburg
The newly rebranded Cape Town Nu World Festival will be spreading its wings and entertaining music lovers in Johannesburg for one unforgettable night on 17 July.
The Cape Town leg of the festival takes place on 17-18 July. The opening night will also mark the first edition of the Jozi Nu World Festival, a one-night musical journey set in the heart of Johannesburg at the Bassline in Newtown.
The Jozi Nu World Festival is a collaborative concept event which will offer a unique experience aiming to inspire, unite and educate by representing Africa and beyond in a journey of musical discovery.
The diverse line-up includes Mokoomba, the young Zimbabwean band with an awesome combination of traditional Tonga and pan-African music cultures. The band’s manager Marcus Gora told Music In Africa: “The band is very excited to be a part of the first edition of the Jozi Nu World Festival. It is a pleasure for us to be back in Johannesburg and playing at the Bassline, a venue we like. We are also excited about the cool line-up and we trust everybody coming to the festival will have a night of wonderful music.”
Also on the bill is Tcheka from Cape Verde, known for his unique guitar-driven style. Joining them from Germany is the Hamburg-born musician known as Dunkelbunt, who has an amazing talent for mixing electronic and organic instrumentation and rhythms from the whole world, as well as local South African acts Derek Gripper, a gifted guitarist, and Majozi, whose new EP Mountains reached number 11 on the South African iTunes charts. More exciting acts are set to be added to the line-up soon, so watch this space. Organisers Beanstalk and its performers invite you to “come for the familiar and leave with something different”.
Tickets are available through www.webtickets.co.za for R250.
