Open Call: December in GH events
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the Beyond the Return (BTR) secretariat are inviting event organisers to submit proposals for the December in GH 2024 campaign.
The initiative aims to enhance Ghana’s position as a top holiday destination in Africa. Successful applicants will have the chance to have their events endorsed and featured in the campaign’s calendar, boosting their visibility and contributing to Ghana’s tourism growth.
Creative entrepreneurs and organisations operating in the arts, culture, tourism, hospitality, and related sectors are urged to join, with event categories spanning music concerts, fashion, community service, investment, youth activities, theatre, conferences and panels.
Eligibility
- Proposals must encompass events scheduled between 15 November 2024 and 15 January 2025.
- Events should bring together the global African diaspora, continental Africans, and the local Ghanaian community.
- Events should feature at least one of the seven foundational pillars of Beyond the Return, namely Experience Ghana, Celebrate Ghana, Give Back Ghana, Invest in Ghana, Brand Ghana, Diaspora Pathways to Ghana, and Promote Pan African Heritage and Innovation.
How to apply
All proposals must be submitted using the official form. The form can also be found on the Beyond the Return website.
The submission deadline is 30 April.
Launched in Accra on 9 September 2020, Beyond the Return is a decade-long, follow-up programme to 2019’s Year of Return campaign. It seeks to build on the tourism gains chalked up by the Year of Return, which invited the African diaspora to return to the country to mark 400 years since the first African slaves were shipped to the US.
Director of BTR secretariat Annabelle McKenzie said: “Ghana has seen tremendous growth in tourism, bridging the gap between Ghana and the historical diaspora, and unifying Africans due to the ‘Year of Return’ and ‘Beyond the Return’. The secretariat is well prepared for the sixth year of ‘December in GH’ and is excited to work with event organisers and key stakeholders.”
