The management board of the Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) is pleased to welcome Mr Robert Hooijer as interim treasurer. Mr Hooijer joins the board as a co-opted member following the stepping down of Dr Joel Baloyi this month.

Dr Baloyi, who could not continue as treasurer because of increasing responsibilities in his new position as deputy registrar at the University of South Africa (UNISA), will continue to serve on the MIAF board together with his colleagues until the next elections at the 8th Annual General Meeting scheduled for November 2020.
Mr Hooijer is an independent consultant in the administration of copyrights and music business management. He served as the CEO of the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) and was the former director for African affairs at the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC), as well as CISAC interim director-general.
Mr Hooijer is currently the sub-Saharan Africa regional coordinator for the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) in the federation's development initiatives for the collective management of performance rights in sound recordings, music videos and related matters.
"We are delighted to welcome Rob Hooijer to the board," Music In Africa Foundation chairperson Ms Maimouna Dembélé said.
"We are privileged to have such a committed and talented group of industry leaders at the helm of the foundation, and we look forward to the fresh perspectives and valuable insight Mr Hooijer will bring as we continue our commitment."
While an executive at SAMRO, Mr Hooijer served as a member of the board of directors of CISAC and as a member of CISAC’s board finance committee, and was a past chairman of CISAC’s African committee for four years. Together with colleagues from African affiliates, they launched an African development plan, which has shown encouraging results of improved revenues and distributions by African collective management organisations on behalf of rights holders.
