SA’s DJ Maphorisa drops new EP
One of South Africa’s best producers DJ Maphorisa has dropped a new EP dubbed Dropping My Album On my Birthday 15 Nov 16.
Basking in the recognition he has received in South Africa and abroad, DJ Maphorisa fuses some house and Afro-pop tunes on the EP. The project features tracks such as ‘Bea leme Hold Huh’, ‘Mbokodo’, ‘Check’, ‘SnapdatSh!t’, ‘Kemosadi’ and ‘Touch ur Toes’.
Dropping My Album On my Birthday 15 Nov 16 features some of Africa’s biggest talents, namely Patoranking, Vanessa Mdee, Yanga, Kly, Smashis, Tweezy and Maggz.
Maphorisa has worked with notable artists across the world and has received production credits from several local and international musicians, including Wizkid, Kwesta, Uhuru, Drake, Black Coffee, and Runtown among others.
Recently, an SA musician posted a video of US singer Trey Songz blasting Maphorisa’s hit track ‘Soweto Baby’. Trey Songz is currently in Kenya ahead of the highly anticipated Coke Studio finale where he is working on a fusion with Emtee and DJ Maphorisa.
He was recently featured by Nigeria’s top rapper YCee in the video for his remix of ‘Omo Alhaji’. In August the top producer performed at the Passport Experience (PXP) Festival at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta in the US. He joined top musicians like Senegalese-American star Akon, Shaggy and Rich Homie Quan at what was dubbed “the first truly international music festival”.
