SA: 2021 Feather Awards announce nominees
The nominees of the 2021 Feather Awards in South Africa have been revealed ahead of the awards ceremony at the Market Theatre in Johannesburg on 11 November.
The awards ceremony was founded by Thami Kotlolo and seeks to honour individuals in different fields including music, media and fashion, as well as LGBTQI initiatives. Now in its 13th edition, the event has evolved from solely an award celebration in 2008 to a full array of well-planned and executed LGBTQI advocacy activations taking place throughout the year.
“It's been an interest 13 years building these awards as a community,” Kotlolo said. “From starting out as a small celebration at a nightclub in Rosebank, the Feathers is now a whole teenager, a fully operational powerhouse of programmes.
“Through the awards, we have showcased, celebrated and shared the South African LGBTQI community with not only the African continent but also the world at large. They have also helped empower the country through dialogues and workshops, making their voice heard in communities in the public and private sector ”
