SA: DJ Sbu to host 2018 Mzansi Kwaito and House Awards
South African kwaito artist DJ Sbu will host the 2018 edition of the Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards at Carnival City, Boksburg on 24 November.
The news was first shared on the Mzanzi Kwaito and House Music Awards Facebook page.
DJ Sbu told local media that he was excited to host the awards. “I’m really humbled and grateful for the work the awards are doing to preserve kwaito. It’s important for us to know that we have nothing to prove [by] saying kwaito is dead because most of the new artists today are influenced by kwaito."
Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards PR and communications officer said: “Having DJ Sbu host the awards will motivate and inspire upcoming musicians who come from different townships to work harder to achieve their dreams.”
The organisers had initially announced kwaito artist Zola as the host, but the ‘Don't Cry’ hitmaker pulled out for undisclosed reasons.
Voting for the awards is still underway and the deadline for is 9 November. To vote, SMS “MKHMA (Category name) (Artist name)" to 40439. The cost of each SMS is R2.
