SA: Folklore Festival announces artist line-up, dates
The organisers of the Folklore Festival have announced the names of the artists who will perform at this year’s event at the Constitution Hill Women’s Jail in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 14 September.
The line-up is drawn from various arts disciplines, including musicians, authors, spoken word artists, poets, and storytellers. Confirmed musicians include Amanda Black, Madala Kunene and Maleh, as well as storyteller, writer, playwright, and actress Gcina Mhlophe.
The event, directed by Pilani Bubu, seeks to create a family-friendly platform for intergenerational dialogue, sharing culture, creativity, and heritage. The festival’s #WeTheFolk theme honours South Africa’s history, past to present, with a special performance by Pilani Bubu.
“It is time for this community to come together again to share in culture, creativity and heritage,” Bubu said. “This is a family-friendly platform to have those resonant conversations, to hold space for our shared values and to contribute to nation-building.”
The programme also features edutainment for kids of all ages, featuring Sho Madjozi, Logan & Friends and Jocelyn Logan-Friend.
The Folklore Festival is open to attendees of all ages. Tickets for the festival can be purchased here.
