SA: Major League DJz to attempt 75-hour record mix
South African award-winning duo Major League DJz will perform a 75-hour balcony mix dubbed The Book Of The Music Journey at Katy’s Palace in Kramerville, Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa, on 1 to 3 September.
The non-stop performance will form part of the Balcony Mix Xperience, and the DJs will attempt to set the global record for the longest duo DJ set in history. In 2010, fellow South African DJ Black Coffee set the world record for longest one-handed DJ set.
“We see this show as a celebration of what we’ve achieved and we can’t wait to celebrate this moment with some of our biggest supporters,” Major League DJz said.
The Balcony Mix sessions started on building rooftops in Johannesburg’s city centre during the COVID-19 pandemic and has now amassed audiences globally including in London and New York, and is picking up steam in other parts of the world.
The series has positioned the twins as amapiano ambassadors and has seen the duo secure several international deals, including partnerships with emPawa Africa Music and American record label Atlantic Records.
“When we created emPawa, our goal was to be able to identify and partner with extraordinary African creatives. We are reaffirming that goal with this partnership with Balcony Mix and our good friends Major League DJz as they take on the world,” emPawa Africa Music head of label services Ikenna Nwagboso said.
The event comes off the back of their recent tour in the dance music mecca, Ibiza, which saw them perform at some of the biggest local clubs like Blue Marlin, Boiler Room at El Silencio, and Tox at Destino.
Since emerging in 2012, amapiano has fast become the biggest music movement in South Africa in terms of consumption and has attracted attention around the world.
