SA: MTV Base goes on new VJ search

The winner of MTV Base VJ Search will be awarded a 12-month contract as an ambassador for the TV network, which said the new VJ would also host shows and interview well-known local and international musicians. The successful candidate is expected to be passionate about music as well as global and African youth culture.

“MTV Base takes pride in empowering and developing talent on the continent through the MTV Base VJ Search," Monde Twala, BET vice-president for youth and music, said. "This is an opportunity for young talent to showcase what they are capable of doing.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with sponsor Breezer for a second year. Campaigns such as these support the youth by tapping into their creativity and pushing boundaries with their art form from music, television, fashion and comedy. We are looking for a well-rounded, fresh and colourful VJ.”

Last year, MTV Base crowned Tshego Mosupye as the winner of the competition. Mosupye, who competed against Kuhle Adams and Gontse Makgoba, will conclude his 12 months at MTV Base by hosting this year's competition.

“I have definitely learnt immensely from this journey," Mosupye said. "The experience at MTV Base has proved to me that it’s worth following your dreams.

"Everything I thought of and had faith in came about and I learnt that when you get here you’ll always need to get to the next stratosphere of life. While living my life in colour, I am ready to transcend my talent and brand into the next level of the modern-day gentleman.”
