The Afro-soul ballad centres on themes of love, commitment and companionship, with the title translating to “Walk With Me”. According to the artists, the song explores everyday expressions of love through themes of support, patience and shared experiences.
Speaking about the track, Starr Healer said the song focuses on a more grounded view of relationships.
“‘Hamba Nami’ is about that kind of love that feels like home. It’s not rushed or loud. It’s the voice that says, ‘I don’t need a perfect road – I just need you next to me’,” she said.
“I wrote it thinking about how real love shows up when you’re tired, when you’re healing, when you’re growing. It’s an invitation to walk together through whatever comes.”
Nomfundo Moh described the song as a reflection on commitment in relationships.
“For me, ‘Hamba Nami’ speaks to commitment. It’s the conversation between two people who’ve decided that love is not a feeling that comes and goes – it’s a choice,” she said.
The artists also discussed how the collaboration developed, describing it as a shared creative process rather than a traditional feature arrangement.
Starr Healer said she had identified Nomfundo Moh as a suitable collaborator for the song because of her vocal style and interpretation of lyrics.
“I’ve always admired Nomfundo’s ability to make every lyric feel like a prayer. When the song was ready, I knew her voice would bring a gentle strength to it,” she said.
“She didn’t just feature – she co-created.”
Nomfundo Moh said she accepted the collaboration shortly after hearing the track.
“Starr sent me the track and said, ‘This is for the lovers who don’t shout their love, they live it.’ That line stayed with me. I said yes immediately,” she said.
The release also marks a shift in musical direction for both artists. Starr Healer said her previous work had largely focused on personal healing, while ‘Hamba Nami’ explored emotional growth within relationships.
“My earlier music focused a lot on personal struggle and healing alone. ‘Hamba Nami’ is the first single where I say, ‘Healing can happen with someone’,” she said.
Nomfundo Moh added that the song presents a quieter and more intimate approach to themes she has addressed in earlier releases.
“I’ve sung about love before, but this one is more intimate. Less dramatic, more daily,” she said.
The single is scheduled for release across digital platforms on 29 May.
