SA: Watch Goethe-Institut Library Jams ft. Sha Sha
Goethe-Institut South Africa has released a live video recording featuring South Africa-based Zimbabwean amapiano artist Sha Sha. The performance is part of the German cultural organisation’s Library Jams.

The Library Jams project is a partnership between Goethe-Institut and Power FM 98.7, and seeks to create performing and income-generating opportunities for artists in a safe environment while simultaneously producing fresh digital content. The initiative began amid the COVID-19 lockdown in South Africa last year.
Other artists who have benefited from this initiative include local acts Zoë Modiga and hip hop collective The Charles Gene Suite.
“Meeting an artist as famous as Sha Sha is always a nerve-racking experience, as you never know if the fame has brought some arrogance with it,” Goethe-Insitut’s Jonas Radunz said. “But not with Sha Sha, who is the most polite person. When she walked into our institute, she patiently spelt out her name for our receptionist when we had to take care of COVID-19 protocols.
“On stage, she continued with that calm demeanour, surprising us with a live instrumented version of her amapiano hit ‘Tender Love’. But that was only a teaser, as she soon delved into her back catalogue of hits that had the entire library on their feet, dancing and enjoying the uniquely South African sound of amapiano.”
Sha Sha, who is the first Zimbabwean artist to win a BET Award, also performed ‘Love You Tonight’, ’iThemba'lam’ and ‘Why Ngikufela’.
