SA: Zahara inks Warner Music global deal ahead of album release
South African artist Zahara has signed a global recording deal with Warner Music SA ahead of her upcoming album Nqaba Yam, expected to be released in June.
The Loliwe hitmaker joined Warner Music SA on the local roster, but has now elevated her relationship with the label on an international level.
“I am excited,” Zahara told Music In Africa. “What I will do with Warner Music is to tell my story to the world. I am here to inspire and give hope. I feel like a child right now, I am overjoyed and it’s amazing.”
Warner Music SA's A&R manager: Urban, Vusi Leeuw, said they were impressed to have Zahara join their stable. “We look forward to the great new journey that lies ahead in this digital era as we take her music and brands not only to her loyal South African fans, but to the world.”
On 7 May, the ‘Mgodi’ singer will release ‘Ngizo Nyamezela’ as the lead single to her upcoming album.
“I’ve always said that I didn’t come into this industry to be famous, but rather to inspire. This album, like all my previous work, is an entry into my headspace. Music is my escape and saving grace. This single is what we all need now, a ray of hope during these trying times.”
Nqaba Yam is a raw peek into the songstress' victories and struggles and it features a fusion of traditional Afropop sounds, kwaito influences overlaid with her raspy vocals.
