Spotify expands live stream listing service
Music streaming platform Spotify has partnered with StageIt, Mandolin, NoCap and Nugs.net to expand its live-stream listing feature.
Spotify will now feature upcoming online concerts from the new partners alongside its existing partnerships with Ticketmaster and Songkick. The company says it will be using mailouts to alert users about events by artists they like, as well as push notifications that will be sent to followers and fans of artists with upcoming virtual events about 24 to 48 hours prior to the events.
Spotify does not allow users to list events directly through Spotify for Artists. Artist teams will have to work with the platform’s ticketing partners to get their events listed. The company will also continue to send personalised virtual events recommendations to listeners who have opted in to receive concert notifications via email.
“We’ve streamlined the experience with our new partners so that listeners can go directly from Spotify on iOS, Android or desktop to your event,” Spotify said. “And though Spotify doesn’t sell concert tickets, we do recommend events to listeners based on their location, the music they like and the artists they follow.”
Spotify has also published tips on live streaming for musicians who are planning a virtual event from home. Additionally, artists can listen to the platform’s Co.Lab Sessions podcast to get advice on live-stream logistics from industry expert John Petrocelli of Bulldog Media.
Musicians in South Africa can get additional tips from Concerts SA’s Digital Futures live streaming research report, which unpacks the different live-streaming activities in the country and assesses the underlying business models to evaluate the risks and opportunities for digital performances.
