Spotify partners with Resident Advisor to sell tickets
Music streaming service Spotify recently announced that it had partnered with online music magazine and community platform Resident Advisor.
Through localised event listings, the partnership will link Spotify users around the world to gigs with artists they like on the Spotify app. Users can then purchase tickets from Resident Advisor.
Resident Advisor says the collaboration could assist independent promoters who showcase new artists to sell more tickets. In addition, it will provide a new support pipeline to local venues.
Based on listening history and Spotify activity, users will receive email notifications about events. This will make it easier for them to catch live performances from the artists they love while supporting them and their local scene.
Resident Advisor was founded in 2001 and now sells millions of tickets to events such as concerts and festivals each year. It also lists events in more than 50 countries.
"The vitality of local scenes is essential for the sustainability and creativity of the global electronic music community," Resident Advisor co-founder Nick Sabine said.
“Our collaboration with Spotify is a brilliant evolution of the work we have been doing for almost two decades to support the work of the independent artists, venues and promoters, which act as the pillars of those scenes.”
As part of the partnership, Resident Advisor has also uploaded all episodes of its Exchange podcast to Spotify.
The community platform claims it is “the largest independently owned media platform in music journalism.” It specialises in electronic dance music and has an audience of fans, DJs, producers, venue owners, promoters and record labels, according to Billboard.
Although concert listings are not new to Spotify, Resident Advisor is the latest ticketing platform to bring gig info for independent artists. The development follows similar partnerships with ticket sellers such as Ticketmaster, Songkick, Eventbrite and AXS, Digital Music News said.
