The film reflects on the duo’s role in taking amapiano from local dancefloors to international recognition. It explores their catalogue, including the albums Scorpion Kings and The Return of the Scorpion Kings, which are credited with helping to establish the genre in the mainstream.
The documentary captures Kabza and Maphorisa in conversation about their journey, their influence on amapiano, and the community that has shaped the sound with them. It comes ahead of their forthcoming release, Kings Will Rise.
Spotify Sub-Saharan Africa artist, label and partnership manager Jodie Tabisher said: “Spotify has always been about connecting the world to the power of music and moments like this matter. Amapiano is shaping global dance culture, and the Scorpion Kings have been central to that story. This film is our way of documenting and amplifying that legacy.”
Spotify said the release is part of its wider commitment to supporting African artists and marking significant cultural milestones. The platform has positioned the film as a way of preserving the Scorpion Kings’ contribution to South African music beyond streaming platforms and playlists.
