Yemi Alade set to tour the US and Canada
Nigerian popstar Yemi Alade has announced forthcoming US and Canada tours. Both tours will take place on unspecified dates in July and August.
The announcement, which was made via Instagram, will see the 'Johnny' singer and her Ova Sabi band promote her two studio albums, King of Queens and Mama Africa.
This tour is the first of North America by Yemi Alade, and will follow her performance at a concert in Le Trianon, Paris, on 7 April.
Alade, who came on the Nigerian music scene after winning a singing talent show, had a rewarding 2016. Her second album, Mama Africa, won Best Album (World Beat) at the 15th edition of the Independent Music Awards, which took place at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York. She was named Best Female Act at the 2016 MAMA awards, which she co-hosted. And she appeared in a commercial for multinational energy company Shell alongside US act Jennifer Hudson and other international artists.
The coming tour follows Yemi Alade's bid to reach fans outside of her country - which in the past saw her release French versions of her own songs originally recorded in English. She has also announced plans to release an EP with the French title Mama Afrique. The EP, according to an official statement, "is a continuation of her acclaimed sophomore album, Mama Africa (The Diary of an African Woman)".
Ahead of the US and Canada tour, Ms Alade has teased the release of a new single on Instagram, sharing clips of the song and asking her fans to guess its title. A video for the song 'Marry Me' from Mama Africa was released recently. Watch it below:
