Zimbabwe: Bob Nyabinde to rerecord song with Polish violinist
Zimbabwean Afro-jazz artist Bob Nyabinde is collaborating with Polish musician Klara Wojtkowska to recreate a song from his second album Ndiratidze Mumwe Chete. Titled ‘Rudo’, the song will be produced by local music producer Tawanda Kudhlanga.
Best known as Headmaster, the ‘Chabuda Hapana’ hitmaker also roped in fellow Afro-jazz musician Brezhnev Guveya for the project.
“I am currently redoing a track from my second album titled ‘Rudo’ and it is expected to come out any time soon,” Nyabinde told NewZimbabwe.com. “I am working with an artist from Poland on this exciting project."
Nyabinde, who is also in the business of making and repairing musical instruments, recalled how he had met Wojtkowska. “I met Klara when she came to my workshop to have her violin repaired. She heard me singing the track ‘Rudo' and she accompanied it with her violin and there was a blend. We then decided to redo the song.”
Wojtkowska will also be singing the song in Shona. “This is not my first project with a Zimbabwean artist, and I love playing music with both Bob and Brezhnev Guveya. We all seem to have great musical chemistry and I am very mush enjoying myself as a musician,” Wojtkowska said.
Nyabinde, who is the frontman of Savanna Drive Band, has four albums under his belt. His debut Pane Nyaya (2002) earned him mainstream success in Zimbabwe. It was followed by Ndiratidze Mumwe Chete (2004), Teerera (2006) and Anzwa Hama (2013).
Wojtkowska, also a writer, teacher, director and actress, has performed at various classical festivals around the world. She has also worked as a club violinist around Poland and is now exploring African jazz.
Wojtkowska is the founder of Dancing Fox Myth, Song and Ceremony – an organisation that focuses on music publishing and teaching, performance, storytelling and theatre. The project is operating in both countries.
