South Africa’s Royal Heritage Festival is here
Music lovers in South Africa will celebrate the 2016 Phalaphala FM Royal Heritage Festival on Saturday, 10 September in Thoyandou, Limpopo.
Now in its fifth edition, the festival boasts a star-studded line-up including Thandiswa Mazwai, Nathi, Shwi Nomtekhala, Sfiso Ncwane, Nasty C, Riky Rick, VJ Nutty, DJ Ganyani, Prince Kaybee, Heavy K, DJ Zinhle and many other prominent artists.
The event will be held at Nandoni Dam in at the Royal Gardens, a venue that can easily attract 21 000 people.
Founded in 2012, the festival is an initiative of Phalaphala FM Royal Heritage Festival, SABC 2 and Royal Gardens.
The festival will also feature crowning of the Venda King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana. People will also enjoy cultural activities such as musangwe (a knuckle fist fight mostly practiced in Venda) and a music workshop.
“The Phalaphala FM Royal Heritage Festival will provide the province with an opportunity to unify its citizens and their neighbouring countries,” said the festival organisers in a press release.
The event aims to celebrate the country’s rich cultural heritage and promote tourism in the province.
Zimbabwe star added to line-up
Zimbabwe’s sungura music maestro Alick Macheso will perform at the festival. Macheso’s name is not strange in South Africa, especially in Limpopo and Gauteng where he has held a number of shows. In 2013, he was in Vhembe, Limpopo where he shared the stage with South African reggae star Colbert Mukwevho. He is also a regular performer at Chez Ntemba and Safari International Hotel in Johannesburg.
Tickets are R180 at Computicket and R200 at the door.
