Nigeria: L.A.X and Mayorkun land deal with smartphone brand
Nigerian singers L.A.X and Mayorkun have secured a deal with global smartphone giant OPPO Mobile.
The partnership, which was made public this week, requires the artists to write a song for the Reno5 F smartphone. It comes on the heels of the launch of the Reno5 series in Nigeria on 17 March. It also follows the signing of fellow musician and Big Brother Naija winner Laycon as a brand ambassador for the company in December.
Launched in 2004 and with operations in more than 40 countries and regions globally, OPPO provides a wide range of smart devices spearheaded by the Find and Reno series. It is also behind the ColorOS operating system as well as internet services OPPO Cloud and OPPO+.
“We decided to collaborate with Mayorkun and L.A.X on the Reno5 F song because of their amazing ability to relate with their audiences,” OPPO Mobile Nigeria public relations manager Joseph Adeola said. “With their unique talents, L.A.X and Mayorkun are without a doubt some of the biggest stars in the Nigerian music industry today. With the OPPO Reno5 F song featuring both artists, I believe we have reaffirmed the brand’s position as the leading smartphone brand for the aspirational and talented Nigerian who believes they can take on the world.”
The company said the deal formed part of its efforts to support young talent in the West African country, while further cementing its position as a key player in the smartphone industry.
L.A.X and Mayorkun have enjoyed impressive careers in the entertainment industry with successful releases including ‘Lose My Mind’ and ‘Your Body’, respectively. They are also among the Nigerian acts popularising the South African dance genre of amapiano in West Africa.
The campaign song for the Reno5 F smartphone is expected to be released in the coming days.
