Bio
Deroy Jimmy Taylor, also known as Roy X Taylor, is an award-winning musician. The Central Region of Ghana is home to Saltpond in the Mfantsiman Municipality.
His passion for music began in his early years, at the age of five, playing drums at churches, crusades, and becoming the first kid trumpeter in the Mfantseman Municipal Brigade. As the rhythm guitar player and backing vocalist for Ebo Taylor's Saltpond City Band, he has toured globally with the band. Roy X Taylor appears on Ebo Taylor's Yen Ara album released in 2018 on Mumudey.
Philophon, a German production house, partnered with him on a project called Odoyewu in 2014. Roy's style of music combines African roots highlife with funk grooves and the American popular music genre hip hop. This makes him unique among his competitors in Ghana and across Africa. A graduate of the University of Education in Winneba, Ghana, he holds a BA in Art Education.
In 2018, he won best ‘Highlife Song of the Year’ at the maiden Mfantsiman Achievers and Entertainment Awards ceremony. He went on to win Highlife Song of the Year at the 2019 Central Music Awards. In 2021, he won the Central Music Awards Male Vocalist of the Year.
