Kassahun Taye
Bio
Kassahun Taye is one of the most popular traditional Ethiopian music singer/dancer. His style of music is of the Amhara region. Kassahun was born and grew up in Gondar which was once the old imperial capital, at a place known as Belessa, in Northern Ethiopia. Kassahun joined the Ethiopian People Revolutionary Democratic Front at a very young age. Kassahun went to school while supporting the revolutionary army and it was at that time he started singing. He used his music as a tool to inform and encourage others to fight for freedom.
Kassahun gained popularity throughout Ethiopia after he released his album (Yitemedal Bere/Sora). The album was a collection of music from the different parts of the Amhara region including Gonder, Wollo, Minjar, and Gojam. His talent for being able to represent the different regions culture in his music gained him popularity by the Ethiopian listeners. One of his most favored songs by his fans is 'Sora' which means pretty. 'Sora' has been one of the most played music on Ethiopian radio and Television.
'Sora' depicts the traditional dance and clothing style of the Sekota people in the Wollo region. Kassahun and the Sora team have since traveled outside the country to perform for their fans abroad and they are expected to make a world tour in the near future.
