ViacomCBS Networks Africa launches COVID-19 online campaign
TV and multimedia broadcast organisation ViacomCBS Networks Africa has launched an online campaign to inform, educate and entertain viewers on the importance of social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Titled #AloneTogether, the campaign will be broadcast via MTV Base, MTV and BET Africa. It seeks to focus on mental health during national lockdowns. ViacomCBS Networks Africa has produced and curated content for the campaign, which has been shared on air and across the network’s social media platforms.
Part of the online content includes the #MTVBasement online party, which hosts live music performances by South African DJs. The first #MTVBasement party took place on 28 March and featured DJ DBN Gogo, DJ Tira and DJ Speedsta. MTVBase also hosted the #MTVBaseDJTakeoverLive sessions on Instagram, which featured Nigerian DJs Babus, Sose and Soupal.
In addition, MTV introduced #MTVUnpluggedAtHome with Haitian rapper Wyclef Jean. The show seeks to bring together the world’s top artists for weekly home performances during lockdown.
“This really is an unprecedented time for our viewers and we want them to know that they’re not alone,” ViacomCBS Networks Africa senior vice-president and general manager Monde Twala said. “We have a unique opportunity to be a uniting force among our audiences and talented artists across our channels.
“The #AloneTogether campaign is geared towards enabling the power of our platforms in supporting the youth as they navigate this current environment. We are committed to educating, informing and entertaining our viewers with inspired content across all our channels and digital platforms.”
ViacomCBS Networks Africa said: “With the wide selection of content available during the lockdown period, ViacomCBS Networks Africa promises viewers consistent engagement and content,” it said.
