Cape Verde’s Lura and others added to line-up for Azgo in Mozambique
Following a star-studded initial line-up revealed in early April, the organisers of Mozambique’s finest international arts festival, Azgo, have announced a second round of artists who will be performing in Maputo on 20 and 21 May.
Closing the opening night on Friday 20 May will be the special Alexandre Langa Tribute, featuring a line-up of Mozambican musical legends including but not limited to Roberto Chitsondzo, Muzila, Yolanda Kakana, Wazimbo, Dimas, Elvira Viegas, Bernardo Domingos, Bob Lee and Sizaquel - all paying homage to a true legend of southern African music.
The sixth edition of Azgo will also host more of Mozambique’s freshest and most exciting new artists, including soulman Deltino Guerreiro and hip-hop acts Bander and New Joint, as well as young trailblazers Denny OG and Afro Madjaha.
Also added to the line-up is Cape Verdean star Lura, whose energizing uptempo funana beat, a fusion of Creole music and Afro-pop, can heard on her hit ‘Na Ri Na’ as well as her latest single 'Sabi di Más'. The globe-trotting singer will then move on to gigs in Germany and London a few days later.
From Europe Azgo will welcome genre-defying acts Pablo Nouvelle from Switzerland and Spanish duo Za!, both of whom will also be performing at Bushfire in Swaziland the following weekend.
The above additions to the Azgo line-up join previously confirmed artists Zahara (South Africa), Maya Kamaty (Reunion Island), Estère (New Zealand), Cold Specks (Canada), HMB (Portugal) and Kingfisha (Australia), as well as local favourites Gran’Mah, Mr Bow and Neyma
Bringing together a diverse and quality program of music, film, and dance, Azgo is a contemporary celebration of arts and culture, with a strong focus on artists from Mozambique and from around the continent of Africa. Its organisers strive to create new opportunities for exchange between national and international artists through collaboration and workshops.
Tickets are on sale now for 900 MTS ($17) per day or 1400 ($27) for the whole weekend. VIP tickets are 1600 MTS ($32) for one day and 2700 ($53) for both. Tickets are on sale now from Computicket outlets at local Shoprite outlets or online via Bilhetes Online and Entradas.
