Nigeria: MI Abaga set to play ‘Love’ concert
Nigerian Rapper MI Abaga will on 2 March perform songs from the forthcoming Love EP for the first time. The venue for the performance is the culture hub Freedom Park in Lagos, Nigeria.
Although focused on music, the concert is being promoted as part of the ongoing Lagos Theatre Festival as sponsored by the British Council.
The British Council and MI Abaga have had a relationship for some time. On Illegal Music (2009), MI Abaga’s first mixtape, the rapper name-dropped the UK institution on the song ‘I’m Hot’.
The Love EP is the seventh solo project from the rapper raised in Jos, Plateau. It is his eighth project overall including the Chocolate City record label collective album, The Indestructible Choc Boi Nation, following his third mixtape Illegal Music 3.
On Twitter, the Chocolate City label tweeted a photo of the artist against a black background, with the words, “#TheLoveEp by @MI_Abaga .... Who is ready???” MI Abaga himself tweeted the same photo. Previously he commented on the release of the new material, saying, “I am sooooooo excited bro.. and it's scary cuz this is a vibe I have never been on.. wheeeewwww.. Its visuals really holding up the process.”
Abaga’s last studio album, The Chairman, took the Best Rap Album award at the Headies.
Time: 7pm local time. Tickets, at 2000 naira ($6), will be available at the Freedom Park, Lagos venue.
