Nigeria: MI Abaga set to release EP
Nigerian rapper MI Abaga has announced a listening session for an unreleased project called The Love EP.
The rapper, who is signed to the popular Chocolate City record label, has released three albums including the 2008 debut Talk About It and 2010’s MI 2. In between the release of these solo albums, the rapper released three mixtapes, including Illegal Music 3: The Finale, which was heralded by the single ‘Everything’.
MI took to social media to share news regarding the forthcoming EP. “The ‘Love EP’ is unreleased material,” he wrote. “You would be the first to hear it! Please come.” The rapper is yet to share further details. Nonetheless, in responding to fans, he said the much-awaited album Yung Denzel will be released later in the year following the Love EP.
In 2015, MI Abaga became head of Chocolate City following the exit of his friend Audu Maikori. Since then he has shepherded the release of newer acts like Ckay and Koker. The label has also added imprints owned by Abaga’s brother Jesse Jagz and childhood friend Ice Prince.
MI’s last album, The Chairman, won the Best Rap Album award at the Headies. Earlier in his career, MI received the Best New Act at the 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards. The rapper is featured on the recently released remix to the Ali Kiba hit 'Aje'. Watch the song's video below:
