Vodafone Ghana announces business service for musicians
Vodafone Ghana, the sponsor of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs), has announced a new service for musicians ahead of the awards ceremony this weekend.
The package, titled Your Business Online, allows artists to build their personal brand and grow their presence online. Starting at GH₵99 ($17) per year, users can get a one-page website developed and maintained by the telco. The service also comes with basic search engine optimisation, email marketing, website analytics and a personal website consultant, among others.
Vodafone Ghana’s sales manager for small to medium enterprises, Chris Adusei, said the announcement is in acknowledgement of music’s role in shaping culture and forms part of Vodafone’s efforts to strengthen the country’s music sector, especially in the area of technology.
“With the advent of social media and digitalisation, the music industry will never be the same,” Adusei said. “Having your own musician’s website might seem obsolete when you already have a social media presence and YouTube account. However, the selling power of having a website as a musician shouldn’t be overlooked. A website will stand the test of time and give you the permanent online presence you need.”
To get started, interested individuals should send an email to vodafonebusiness.gh@vodafone.com.
Meanwhile, the organisers of the VGMAs on Monday held a summit to commemorate World Music Day. The event, which drew stakeholders from across Ghana’s music industry, witnessed conversations geared towards its growth. It also saw the presentation of the VGMA Titan Award to industry veterans and companies including Prof John Collins, composer Kenneth Kwaku Avotri Kafui, Big Ben Productions and former Musicians Union of Ghana boss Sidiku Buari.
The 22nd VGMAs will take place on 25 and 26 June, with Adina, KiDi, Diana Hamilton, Kuami Eugene, Medikal and Sarkodie in the running for the coveted Artist of the Year Award.
