Call for applications: Revenue Streams for African Musicians workshop in Cape Town
As part of the Revenue Streams for African Musicians (RSFAM) project, the Music In Africa Foundation, in collaboration with the Bridges for Music Academy, is inviting all practising musicians based in the Western Cape province in South Africa to attend a two-day workshop at the Bridges for Music campus in Langa, Cape Town, on 3 and 4 March 2022.
Launched in 2021, the RSFAM project is a multifaceted initiative aiming to empower South African music professionals with information and tools to earn more income from their works.
The project mobilised field researchers in all nine provinces in South Africa to conduct interviews with nearly 3 000 musicians nationwide. This process enabled the Foundation to gain an understanding of the key revenue streams relevant to the South African music industry, both in the formal and informal sectors, leading to the development of training programmes that will be implemented in different provinces between February and April 2022. Important industry insights will also be made available in an open-access report that is set for launch in April this year.
Benefits of attending the workshop:
- Receive training from industry experts.
- Learn how to maximise your revenue as a music creator.
- Peer-to-peer exchanges.
- Networking.
- Share your own ideas.
- Receive a certificate of participation.
Themes covered by invited music industry experts will include: optimising earnings from royalties, understanding music rights, brand-related revenue, income from live performances and music-related services.
The workshop is free of charge but is limited to 50 seats. Preference will be given to musicians who participated in the RSFAM survey in 2021.
Register now by filling out this form by 21 February 2022. Please note this form is only for creators able to attend the workshop in Cape Town.
Not based in Cape Town? Workshops will also be held in Johannesburg, Durban and Limpopo. Please keep an eye out on our website and social media pages to register for a workshop in your city. Details will be announced soon.
