The show marks another gig in the US for the DJ, and will focus on the best new music from Africa. It will air every Friday at 12pm (CAT), and will be run under the tagline “Spinning the best new music from Africa“.
“I am super excited to be broadcasting in Hollywood and creating an authentic gateway for young African artists to become the next global superstars on their own terms,” Da Kruk said.
Born Kutloano Nhlapo, Da Kruk has been a key name promoting South African music. He is widely credited for opening doors for many hopeful amapiano artists by dedicating an hour of his radio show to their tracks. This became amapiano’s gateway to commercial radio. The music executive strongly believes in continuously seeking new avenues and ways to expand and grow, and has managed to showcase the South African and wider African music and entertainment market on international platforms.
This is not Da Kruk’s first international radio stint. In September 2021, his amapiano mix was featured on Half Moon, a cultural institution founded in Brooklyn, New York, which focuses on reinforcing emerging culture around the world through radio, events, editorial and educational workshops. In June 2021, the radio host was also selected for an international residency at a radio station called Makeda in Ibiza, Spain. He has also had radio presenting gigs with two UK-based stations.
Launched in August 2014 by radio and TV personality Scott Keeney, Dash Radio is a digital radio broadcasting platform with zero-subscription fees. The platform boasts more than 80 radio stations, which are curated by DJs, radio personalities, musicians and tastemakers, including big names such as Snoop Dogg, Kylie Jenner, Lil Wayne, Tech N9ne, Borgore, and B-Real of Cypress Hill.
