eSwatini: CollaboNation to release new tracks on 18 August
MTN Bushfire and House on Fire in eSwatini will release on 18 August two tracks and their videos that were created as part of the 2023 CollaboNation project. The songs and visuals were recorded in studio and at the 2023 MTN Bushfire festival in May.
Launched by House on Fire in 2022, CollaboNation is funded by the Music In Africa Foundation’s Sound Connects Fund and features musical collaborations that connect the Southern African region. The project is aimed at weaving together Africa’s rich and diverse musical genres while building linkages between the different cultural industries. The musical collaborations have resulted in unique compositions that will allow the artists involved to cross-pollinate their fan bases.
The two tracks – ‘Sek'sedvute’ by Thobile Makhoyane (eSwatini) and The Hood Brodz (Mozambique) as well as ‘Chisimo’ by Mokoomba (Zimbabwe) and Morena Leraba (Lesotho) – were produced by the newly formed Bushfire Records and will be distributed globally via Berlin-based label Paradise Worldwide. The tracks can be pre-saved here and here.
“Bushfire Records is a dynamic new label with an authentic and eclectic focus featuring some of the finest musical and artistic talents from across Africa,” MTN Bushfire said. “The label is inspired by the same ethos of the MTN Bushfire festival in eSwatini, an international festival of music and the arts that illuminates the transformational power of the arts through the Bring Your Fire call to collective action for positive social and environmental change.”
It added that Paradise Worldwide would take the two songs to the international market through partnerships in global hubs like New York, San Francisco, Mexico City and Berlin.
CollaboNation is funded by the Sound Connects Fund, an initiative of the Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) and Goethe-Institut. The Sound Connects Fund is made possible with funding from the ACP-EU Culture Programme, a project implemented by the Secretariat of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States and funded by the European Union (EU). The fund is also co-funded by Goethe-Institut and Siemens Stiftung.
