Zim: Nyanga Arts Festival announces 2023 line-up
The organisers of Nyanga Arts Festival (NAF) in Zimbabwe have unveiled a line-up of artists who will perform at the second edition of the event from 27 to 28 October.
The festival is an initiative of Nhimbe Trust, in partnership with the people of Nyanga. This year’s edition forms part of Nhimbe Trust’s 20th anniversary celebrations and the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, and will run under the theme We are #LivingHeritage.
Aside from music performances, the festival will also include activities from other arts disciplines including visual art, poetry, dance and drama. Confirmed music acts include Katso, Sarungano & The Story Tellers, Black Umfolosi, Suluman Chimbetu, The Expression Band, Chirirangwe Express, Tripple J, J Squared, Neddy Charamba, Lovemore Saunyama, Wisdom Mayakayaka, Edline Phiri and Shein Chimboza.
The festival will kick-off with performances on the Bira Stage at Chief Saunyama’s homestead on 27 October at 1pm with The Expression Band and Black Umfolosi as headline acts supported by a number of local traditional groups. This will be followed by the inaugural NAF Golf tournament which will run concurrently with the inaugural Nyangani FM–ZiFM Local Emerging Talent Stage (LETS) at Montclair Hotel and Casino on 28 October at 1pm. The festival will close with evening performances from artists across different disciplines.
Meanwhile, newly established Ilima Records will offer recording and promotion contracts to any artist selected as outstanding. Established by Nhimbe Trust, the label seeks to facilitate the creation, production and marketing of indigenous music to enhance music business in Zimbabwe.
