BANTU announces Europe tour dates
Nigerian Afrobeat band BANTU has announced that it will go on a European tour, starting with a nine-city itinerary in Germany and Switzerland from 31 May to 21 July.
The tour includes 10 dates in Münster, Cologne and Berlin, among others, with more dates to be announced soon.
“Get ready for an unforgettable experience as we take the stage in a city near you,” the band said on social media.
BANTU, co-founded by current bandleader Ade Bantu in Cologne in 1996, is known for blending Afrobeat, Afro-funk, highlife and Yoruba music.
The 13-piece ensemble will perform music from a catalogue comprising eight albums, notably their latest collection What Is Your Breaking Point? The project, released in 2023 and following 2020’s Everybody Get Agenda and 2017’s Agberos International, speaks about Africa’s social challenges much like the music of Afrobeat’s progenitor and revered iconoclast Fela Kuti.
“Whether you’re a seasoned Afrobeat enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, BANTU is a musical force to be reckoned with,” the band says. “Our ability to seamlessly blend traditional African sounds with contemporary influences has earned us a reputation as one of the top live performance groups and conceptual recording artists.”
BANTU’s 2024 tour comes after the band played a series of concerts in Lagos, Nigeria, last month. About this time last year, the band was on the road across Europe for a summer tour, mainly playing to audiences across Germany.
