Call for applications: ANT Mobility Fund
Pro Helvetia Johannesburg, in partnership with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, is accepting applications for its 2019 ANT Mobility Fund.
The funding is for projects that strive to assist in the development of a more connected cultural field in the Southern African region, supporting trans-national collaboration, circulation of relevant new work and skills or knowledge exchange.
Applicants need to be from the following countries: Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Seychelles, Tanzania (including Zanzibar), Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Approximately 1,200 arts professionals across 135 projects and residencies in the region have been supported by the programme in the last three years.
The deadline for submitting the application is 30 November 2018.
The funding support is available to:
- Individual artists and arts practitioners
- Organisations, groups and companies, including bands, performing arts companies, collectives, festivals and development organisations
Projects that do not qualify for funding
This funding does not support:
- Commercial or profit-oriented projects
- Training of non-professionals
- Formal education programmes or course fees (e.g. at schools, colleges or universities)
- Video/film production (though we could consider supporting content research or development for digital/on-line distribution)
- Book printing (though we could consider supporting content research or development, or audience-led dissemination)
- Artists’ and/or professional fees (where these are relevant, they should be addressed through local partners and/or sponsors)
The evaluation of the project will be based on:
- Clarity of intent and the relevance of the proposed activities to the objectives of the Regional Arts Development Programme
- Artistic merit/quality and the track record of the applicant artistically and professionally
- Active engagement in the proposal from collaborators/partners/hosts in the countries with which you are engaging, and completely in-kind or financial support from local collaborators/partners/hosts and other funders or sponsors
- The potential for the proposed activities to trigger meaningful and relevant ongoing relationships, networks and activities that can develop in the future independently of our investment
Grant amount and costs
Applicants may request:
- Up to R36,000 ($3,000) for individual artists/arts professionals
- Up to R60,000 ($5,000) for organisations, groups and companies
The items that the fund will cover are:
- Local and international travel within and between the aforementioned countries
- Accommodation costs (up to a maximum period of one month)
- Reasonable local living expenses/per diems
- Visa fees where relevant
- Reasonable travel insurance costs where relevant
- Administrative costs (not exceeding 5% of the budget)
- Professional, facilitation or management fees (the amount requested from Pro Helvetia for this should not exceed R12,000 ($1,000).
