Pakare Paye Arts Centre

Founded and established in 2003 by Oliver Mtukudzi, the Pakare Paye Arts Centre is a performance platform for developing and fostering young talent in many practical artistic endeavors particularly music, dance, drama, poetry and storytelling. The centre has played a crucial role in nurturing artists such as Tsvete band and Munyaradzi Mataruse. It has received support from organisations such as the Culture Fund in partnership with the Embassy of Sweden and Nyaradzo Group. Artists who have graced the festival include the host Oliver Mtukudzi, Soukaina Edom, Winky D, Chirikure Chirikure, Hope Masike, Virginia Phiri, and Dominic Benhura among others.

It also features workshops and performances from various artists. The idea of having workshops is to encourage students to consider arts as a career path. During the event, students are also advised on traits that make a good artiste as well as common pitfalls within the arts sector.

Schools which normally attend the event include Marlborough High, Mabelreign Girls High, Harare Girls High, Chiedza Primary, Tafara High, Mabvuku High and St Eric’s High, among others. It is also characterized by representatives from Culture Fund of Zimbabwe Trust, National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, Nyaradzo Group, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and Pakare Paye Arts Center were also present at the event.
