ACCES 2021 to hone in on the state of SA’s music industry
The fourth edition of the Music In Africa Conference for Collaborations, Exchange and Showcases (ACCES) will host a panel discussion titled The State of the South African Music Industry at Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Johannesburg on 27 November.
The discussion forms part of the ACCES 2021 conference programme, which will feature talks, workshops, exhibitions and pitch sessions starting on 26 November.
The panel discussion will be held at 11.20pm and the panellists will include Vth Season co-founder Ninel Musson, Gallo Music Group general manager Rob Cowling, South African Music Performance Rights Association (SAMPRA) CEO Pfanani Lishivha, Sony Music Publishing managing director Rowlin Naicker, and Africori founder and CEO Yoel Kenan.
The panellists will centre the discussion on their areas of expertise – namely artist management and promotion, royalty collection, publishing, and music distribution – to paint a picture of the current state of the South African industry, which is regarded as the most developed music market on the African continent. They will provide delegates with information about the key shifts in the industry, particularly with respect to changes in business operations experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic, and consider what the South African music industry may look like in the near future. They will also talk about the opportunities that musicians and other stakeholders need to be aware of to bolster their careers and services in a globalised market.
On the same day, renowned South African producer and ‘Jerusalema’ hitmaker Master KG will talk about his rise to fame and share his knowledge and experience in the global music industry. His talk is part of the ACCES Conversation series, which have previously featured accomplished artists and industry professionals like Sarkodie, Samini, Sway Dasafo, Mr Eazi, Blinky Bill, Blick Bassy, Efya, Skales and former Fela Kuti manager Rikki Stein.
