Boomplay strikes deal with Tanzanian telco Tigo
Tanzanian telecommunications company Tigo has entered into a partnership with Boomplay to give its customers more access to music via the Africa-facing streaming platform.
The deal was announced on Wednesday and will run under the Wakishua campaign. Upon purchase of daily, weekly or monthly bundles, Tigo customers will get free music on the Boomplay app. They will also get a 30% discount on Boomplay’s daily, weekly and monthly subscription plans.
“Tigo has been supporting the music industry for years by providing a platform for artists to connect with their fans and we are delighted to amplify this objective,” Tigo’s head of brand and communications, William Mpinga, said.
“We recognise the growing need for customers in Tanzania to have more options to access music and entertainment, and to meet this need there's no better service to partner with than Boomplay.”
Also commenting on the deal, Boomplay Tanzania general manager Natasha Stambuli said: “Our vision is to empower the African music ecosystem to unlock its full potential. As such, we are very optimistic about this partnership with Tigo. We believe our partnership will boost the accessibility of the over 85 million songs on Boomplay and increase Tanzanian artists’ revenue in the long run.”
Tigo users have been urged to update Boomplay to the most recent version of the app to enjoy the new features and offers. The Wakishua offer is only available on Boomplay version v6.1.20 and above on Android and v4.4.0 and above on iOS.
“The Wakishua campaign underscores Tigo’s commitment to enhancing customers’ digital experience across the country while reflecting on brand transformation over time,” Mpinga said.
