Call for applications: Ghana Vis a Vis project
The organisers of the Ghana Vis a Vis project have announced a call for two Ghanaian artists to tour Spain in July.
Through this website, musicians and bands can register until 15 February for a chance to perform at some of the most important music festivals in Southern Europe.
The Ghana Vis a Vis project is hosted by Spanish institution Casa Africa with the support of the Ghanaian government through its Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and through a collaboration of the Spanish embassy in Accra and the Ghanaian embassy in Madrid.
The call is open to any Ghanaian band looking to perform before a group of Spanish cultural promoters from 15 to 17 March in Accra. Now in its 10th edition, the Vis a Vis project aims to generate a better knowledge of African music in Spain and has already been held in several African countries.
The producers will be looking for bands that have never performed in Spain before, regardless of their style or language. Bands must fill the name of their group and its members, upload songs in MP3 format and other information via the website.
Once the registration window is closed, the Spanish music producers will choose 12 bands that will perform live duringa two-night programme at the National Theatre of Accra on 15 and 16 March. The bands will have an opportunity to meet the promoters on 17 March.
“We are very excited to come to Ghana to hold our 10th edition of the Vis a Vis Project," Casa Africa’s general director Luis Padron said. "We know we are coming to one of the countries with a professional music industry on the African continent, and we are willing to open this door to bring two of the best artists to perform, in some cases, in front of huge audiences next summer in Spain. For sure, as we have seen in previous editions with bands from other African countries, this tour will be a great opportunity and a new market for them”.
Padron also thanked the Ghanaian government for the opportunity to showcase the best of the country's culture in Spain. So far, Vis a Vis has visited Ethiopia, South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Tanzania, Angola and Senegal (on two occasions).
In case of difficulties in sending the registration or for more information, artists can send an email to info@ghanavisavis.com. For more information, visit the Ghana Vis a Vis official website.
