Call for applications: MAPAS 2019
The Market for the Performing Arts of the South Atlantic (MAPAS) is calling on African musicians and other performing artists (theatre, dance, street arts and circuses) to apply to take part in business meetings and artistic showcases in Tenerife, Canary Islands, between 10 and 14 July 2019.
Now in its third year, MAPAS provides stages throughout Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital of Spain's Tenerife island, to performing artists where they can showcase in front of industry professionals. MAPAS also hosts various workshops where participants get to network and expand their global reach.
Last year, more than 1 300 live artists and arts projects along with 170 programmers and cultural producers from more than 40 countries took part in the event. African countries represented included Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso, Benin, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Niger, the Gambia, Mozambique, Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Morocco, Ethiopia and South Africa.
The application deadline is 15 February 2019 (midnight EAT) and successful candidates will be notified on 29 March 2019.
Who can apply?
- Individual musicians and/or professional music groups.
- Individual artists and/or groups and professional companies that work in the fields of theatre, dance, circus and street arts.
- Agencies for performing arts.
Interested individuals, registered art collectives and organisations should read the guidelines here before applying via the MAPAS official website.
NB: MAPAS neither caters for costs of travel expenses, transport of cargo and scenography nor offers remuneration for the showcases.
Requirements
- Give account of at least 1 year of experience through images, audiovisual material, press, acknowledgements and awards, among others.
- Accept the terms & conditions in the guidelines of this call, as well as the terms for data usage by the companies in charge of the event.
- Complete the application before the aformentioned deadline.
Support from MAPAS
For successful candidates, MAPAS will:
- Provide usernames and an access to the business meeting scheduling platform.
- Provide technically adequate spaces for the artistic showcases.
- Make a work plan and coordinate with the companies for the correct execution of the showcases.
- Call and invite programmers, producers and other professionals that could be interested in each of the performing arts areas that the event offers.
